A desperate battle ensued, Wibbels attacking the beast's mind, and Tharik fighting defensively to avoid those rending teeth. With a final blow, Tharik strikes downward with his blade, severing its spine. They hear the approach of another.

Bloodied, Tharik knows he can't fend off another, and jumps into the lower branches of a nearby tree to catch his breath. As the beasty, attracted to the scent of blood crashes thru the underbrush like a wild boar, instantly scooping the fallen one, and devouring it, like Cujo.  Wibbles picks the wrong location in another tree, as the "Ghenis" (as they would eventually learn) crashes into the tree that Wibbles hides in, in under a minute the  beast chews thru the tree, felling it, as Wibbels attempts to hide in another, failing, and another tree is felled, then Wibbles flies into the upper branches, and successfully hides, the beast heads off chewing a path of destruction.

To their horror, they realize another is heading toward the village, Wibbles flies ahead to warn the villagers, as Tharik having recovered somewhat, but still wounded gave chase.  Just as the Ghenis bursts from the treeline, Wibbels and a local huntsman (non-adept) face off against it, the Ghenis hits its full stride charging the huntsman, pulling away from Tharik just as he's within striking distance. The Ghenis crashes into the hunter, but the hunter's armor prevents any grievous injury, as Wibbels launches an ephemeral bolt, causing it to stagger, as Tharik charges headlong, finishing off the beast in short order.

Passions be praised, Tharik took a serious beating, suffering two wounds, but with a cunning battle plan, and a lot of luck; not to mention an oil flask dropped in the ogre's head, and Tharik thrusting the torch directly into its mouth as it went to roar at him, the ogre finally fell, as the huntsman's arrow struck true as it began to collapse unconscious, striking through the eye, killing it.
Inside the Ogre's cave, they find the remains of the last party of adepts to hunt the ogre, claiming the gear, they limp back to the village, the gear includes a thread wand, and an illusionists grimoire.
